Thad LaVallee
Cycling

For someone who does not ride a bike, I know a lot about road cycling. I've been involved with the sport for fourteen years, and I've even been a USCF official.

My life-long friend, Thad LaVallee, is a Cat 2 cyclist in Maine. Throughout the 90s, we travelled every weekend throughout New England so that he could compete in a race. With each race, we'd discover a fabulous new town. A place that we'd never have visited otherwise.

In 1999, Thad and I were fortunate to follow the Tour de France. With no itinerary or hotel reservations, we walked off the plane, rented a car, and head West to catch up with the Tour at l'Alpe d'Huez. What an amazing experience! He brought his bike and rode the switch-backs up to the top of the famed mountain. On each day, once the riders road through, we'd head to the next French town with the hope of getting lost along the way.

I have a definite passion for cycling. I've even named my cat after a French cyclist! [Read "The Roadie"] I have found that cycling is not just a sport or a hobby, it's a way a life.

I am excited to be involved with the Tour de Grandview this year. When Joelle Khouzam, an organizer of the Tour de Grandview, contacted me last year, I was thrilled. I told her that the mothership had called me back!
